Class Descriptions

Movement Workshop

*Currently on hiatas

The goal for the Movement Workshop class is to facilitate foundational movement development. This class is perfect for those who are just beginning a workout routine, who want to become more conditioned, who need to build a better internal support system for joints and body aches, who want to learn more about proper, safe movement, and those who just want to keep themselves conditioned.

There is a big focus on gentle core development. Core development supports the entire movement chain of the body and can create quick change in how the body feels during any movement.

In the Movement Workshop we will also focus on 4 other aspects of movement: proprioception (awareness of how your body moves through space, and how your body and mind communicate to facilitate and support movement), balance (a very important, often overlooked aspect of physical safety and long term physiological health), stretching (important for muscle balance and the ligaments and bones those muscles connect to, as well as for full range of motion), and breathing. The awareness of breathing cannot be understated. Breathing affects everything from mental clarity to sleep, digestion, stress response, and immunity.

This 60 minute class will move from a gentle warm-up through these five skills and into a cool-down. You should feel rejuvenated yet challenged by the class.

Adjustments and modifications for movement will be made for each individual in the class, so there’s no need to worry if the class is right for you!

Yoga Beats

Thursday Evenings

6:30pm

Yoga Beats is a class that will go by so quickly you won’t believe you just got a 45 minute workout! It is fast-paced and musically driven. Yoga Beats is a higher-intensity class than a regular vinyasa flow, with shorter asana (yoga posture) holds, more creative choreography, and lots of FUN! While this class is more physically demanding, there is still purposeful yogic movement, with emphasis on body-mind connection, releasing tension and negative energy, and practicing proper form within the asanas. The class starts with a warm up, and moves into approximately 30 minutes of music-driven, body-strengthening, mind-freeing, dynamic asana practice. Class ends with a cool down and Savasana.

If you are just starting out on your fitness journey, you will find this class to be more intense than some of our other classes. However, modifications for movement are always offered as needed in class.

Vinyasa Flow

*TBA

Vinyasa Flow is a more traditional yoga class, with slower movement through asanas and the use of breath to find connection through those movements. In this format, asanas are held for several breaths while the body begins to feel the heating tension within the muscles. It’s a therapeutic, supportive, opening, and freeing practice. This class has the potential to be as challenging as you allow it to be, or as gentle as you would like for it to be. Your time on your mat in Vinyasa Flow is definitely just for you. It will start with a warm up, move through sun salutations, and then 30 minutes of flowing asanas, followed by a cool down and Savasana. This class also has the potential to be gently heated during the cooler months to allow muscles to quite literally warm up and have proper blood flow to support movement and reduce potential for injury.

Sculpt and Shape

*TBA

If you are looking to tone and tighten your body and bring definition to muscles without “bulking up”, Sculpt and Shape is the class for you! This 45 minute class begins with a warm up, and graduates into a series of exercises using bands, light-to-medium weights, and bodyweight bearing movements (planks, squats, etc.), and of course, finishes with a proper cool down. If you aren’t a big lover of cardio work, this is a great class for you! It can also easily be modified to accommodate any level of fitness.

HIIT Fit

*TBA

If you want a class that packs a punch, burns major calories, gets your heart rate up, produces great results, and is great for your cardiovascular health, HIIT Fit is for you! In this class we’ve blended circuit training with peripheral heart action (PHA) training and cardio bursts. PHA training is a method of circuit training that alternates weight bearing movement between the upper body and lower body. Because of the alternation, less rest between sets allows for increases in caloric expenditure and aerobic activity and facilitates blood flow. Adding cardio bursts (or HIIT-- high intensity interval training) further increases caloric expenditure, increases metabolic rate, aids in reducing overall body fat while increasing lean muscle mass, can improve oxygen consumption, and can even help reduce heart rate, blood sugar and blood pressure.

This 45 class is musically driven, fun, high energy, challenging, and effective!

Barre Amped

Tuesday Nights

6:30pm

BarreAmped is the gold standard for barre classes, being so committed to form and spine integrity. If you have ever taken a barre class, you know how gentle yet effective they are! The heart rate stays low, the movements are intentional, form-driven, and small. In barre class, focus is placed primarily in the isometric portion of muscle contraction; this is the time in between contraction and lengthening. Because that space is small, movements are small. There is very little movement within/around the surrounding joint, but a constant tension on the specific targeted muscle. This improves physical endurance, posture, stabilization, and strength of muscles.

Barre is a challenging class that somehow marries muscle fatigue and gentleness. It’s great for exercise novices and newcomers, but can easily support and strengthen a cross training athlete.

In barre, we begin with a warm up, then move through arm and shoulder work (done with light weights), to legs, a plank series, a core series, and a cool down. Class is 45 minutes.
